Community Activist Award from Thornhill Post
"Valerie
Burke is a Thornhill environmental activist and proud of
it. Next month, Burke will head the fifth annual Pomona
Mills Park Spring Community Planting, an event that includes
the planting of native trees and shrubs in the park to improve
air quality, naturalize the park setting and provide wildlife
habitat.
Last November, she ran for a council seat, which she says
was her biggest effort to try and help the environment.
"Had I won, obviously there would've been key issues
I could've brought to council, but I'm still going to keep
pushing forward."

Natural Heritage Award from Ontario Heritage Foundation
Valerie
receiving Natural Heritage Award from Ms. Kiloran German,
Board Member of the Ontario Heritage Foundation along with
MPP Tony Wong and Mayor Don Cousens. This award was to recognize
individuals in the community who had made a significant
contribution to the promotion, preservation or protection
of Ontarios heritage.
